The Division of Hospital Internal Medicine (HIM) at WRY Rajeev Hospital includes physicians whose primary role is to provide medical care in the hospital. This team of providers includes physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, also called hospitalists, who work closely with bedside nurses, social workers, physical therapists and other staff to provide thoughtful, safe, collaborative and effective medical care.
Patients are referred to Hospital Internal Medicine by the emergency department, their primary care doctor or other hospitals.
The scope of the Hospital Internal Medicine practice includes 24-hour care of general medical, cancer, telemetry and geriatric patients, as well as consultative services for patients who require surgery. Hospitalists also supervise general medicine resident services, serving as teachers for medical students, nurse practitioner and physician assistant students, residents, and hospital medicine fellows. Most hospitalists at WRY Rajeev Hospital have completed fellowships or advanced training, and many contribute to ongoing education and research at WRY Rajeev Hospital. Opportunities also exist for career development in leadership, hospital administration and systems engineering.
